The Project “Political Fragmentation and Judicial Independence: A Study of the Actions of Unconstitutionality, 1995 – 2015” was carried out from January 2017 to December 2018 by a group of specialists from the Development Institute, the University of Notre Dame and the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, and was carried out thanks to the financial support of CONACYT.
Specific objectives
- Generate systematic data on the decisions of the Supreme Court in actions of unconstitutionality;
- Train new researchers in the empirical analysis of legal decisions;
- Expand theories on judicial behavior, identified the role played by the fragmentation of the ruling party as an explanatory variable of judicial independence;
- Spread the study and promote the area of “judicial politics” among young lawyers and politicians of Paraguay.
Expected products
- New database containing individual decisions of the judges of the Court in constitutional disputes, 1995-2015.
- Training of law students in the course of statistical techniques for legal analysis. Contribution of the theory of judicial behavior.
- Publications disseminated in international journals derived from this project.
